My car is becoming an increasingly noisy mode of transportation over the last couple of weeks. It just seemed like the tires were making a ton more noise than I was accustomed to. I'll freely admit that my music is usually loud enough for me to not notice and I rarely have passengers in my car, but I swear that the last time I had a passenger was a week ago and they weren't this loud.
I checked the tire pressure and they were all 20-22 PSI. Oops. Topped them all back up to 30-32 or so.
I swear that it's got worse. The noise starts right at 40km/h (25mph for the Imperialists) and gets a little louder and higher pitched when getting to highway speeds. It's a continuous drone, and definitely not an object in the tread. I think my tires are ok.. I've had them for the three years that I have owned this car and have only put 25000km on the car in my time owning it. I _think_ they were pretty new when I bought the car. Tires are Goodyear Viva Touring (206/55R16), which are apparently crap based on the 5min of online research I have done. I crammed a finger into the inside tread and it feels like there is probably 4/32" left on all sides. I may reduce the pressure a little, down to 28PSI or so.
What does the Lounge say? Just the tires getting old and due to be replaced? I bought the car with almost 64000km and it's at almost 89000km now. Yeah.. I don't drive much. Car is a 2006 Saturn Ion Coupe, by the way.
Any help will be apprecited.
I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.
